Cristiano Ronaldo may have just changed the game in the ongoing Luis Diaz transfer narrative.

According to reports by Spanish outlet, Sport, the Portuguese icon has urged his Saudi Pro League side Al-Nassr to push for the signing of the Liverpool winger.

This adds another layer to an already complex summer story.

Diaz has been linked with a move away from Anfield for over a year and while Liverpool has maintained that the Colombian is not for sale, the player’s stance may be evolving.

Following Bayern Munich’s failed $79 million bid, Diaz is believed to have made it clear that he wants to leave, particularly after the club showed no intention of offering him a contract extension.

Internally, Liverpool is said to value Diaz at around $117 million.

Barcelona previously tested the waters but saw their approach rejected.

Now, Al-Nassr has emerged as a wildcard, reportedly the only club so far willing to meet Liverpool’s valuation.

Could Saudi Arabia become Diaz’s unlikely next step?

Ronaldo’s personal involvement may give the Saudi bid credibility, but it’s unclear if Díaz is ready to take that route.

So far, the 28-year-old has expressed a strong preference to remain in Europe, with Barcelona still viewed as his ideal destination.

When asked recently about a potential move to Saudi Arabia, Diaz responded cautiously (via reports by Goal):

“We’re in the process of negotiations, talking with the club, with Liverpool, with everyone who’s approaching us… But I’m very calm where I am, very happy.”

His remarks to Win Sports further reflected the uncertainty: “We don’t know yet. Nothing to say. We’re talking with the management. We’re calm where I am.”

Meanwhile, Diaz isn’t the only forward whose future hangs in the balance.

Darwin Nunez continues to be linked with a move away, although Napoli is no longer a likely destination.

Liverpool, in the meantime, appears to be lining up a move for Hugo Ekitike, with personal terms reportedly agreed and a formal bid imminent.
