Liverpool fans have a new hero to look forward to as Federico Chiesa is set to join the Reds, donning the iconic No. 14 shirt. The Italian winger, who has spent the last four years at Juventus, is thrilled to begin his journey at Anfield.
Chiesa’s move to Liverpool for £10.7 million from Juventus is almost complete, with personal terms agreed and a medical set to take place on Merseyside.
The 26-year-old is clearly eager to get started, expressing his excitement to join Liverpool.
“I’m so happy to be a Liverpool player,” Chiesa said. “When Richard Hughes called me and asked, ‘Do you want to join Liverpool?’ – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans.”
“I told my father Enrico about Liverpool bid… he said immediately: GO!”. “As soon as I told him Liverpool he said go, it’s the best choice for your career”. said Chiesa.
Chiesa to Liverpool: A new chapter at Anfield
Chiesa has already bid an emotional farewell to Juventus and their supporters. Speaking at Turin-Caselle Airport before his departure, he shared his mixed feelings:
“I am happy; I am very happy. I want to say goodbye to the Bianconeri fans. Thanks for the affection over these years, I’ll carry you in my heart. Thanks to Juventus. I am sorry [to leave like this] but I am happy for this new adventure. My family and I can’t wait.”
Chiesa, who initially joined Juventus on loan from Fiorentina before making the move permanent, had a challenging season recovering from an ACL injury. However, last season saw a resurgence in his form under Massimiliano Allegri, where he scored 10 goals and averaged a goal every 2.8 games.
Liverpool fans will be hoping that Chiesa, known for his versatility across the forward line and his standout performances for Italy during their Euro 2021 triumph, can replicate his best form at Anfield.
Despite concerns about his injury record, Liverpool’s medical team is confident that Chiesa can overcome these challenges and become a key player for the Reds.
As Chiesa prepares to embrace this new chapter at Liverpool, the anticipation among fans is palpable, with hopes that he will be a valuable addition to the squad.
