Rivalry Heats Up: Liverpool Target £40M Defender Against Juventus and Arsenal

Rising star Riccardo Calafiori of Bologna is being pursued by a number of elite teams, including Liverpool. The defender’s outstanding efforts for Italy at the European Championships have attracted a lot of notice.

Liverpool Battle For Riccardo Calafiori Amid Strong Transfer Competition: Europe’s Breakout Football Star

Even at the age of 22, Riccardo Calafiori has shown himself to be one of Europe’s brightest young players. His outstanding efforts played a major role in Bologna’s Champions League qualification the previous campaign.

Because of his outstanding performances on the global stage, a lot of prestigious clubs have taken notice of him this summer.

The Times claims that Liverpool is not the only team pursuing this. West Ham United, Brighton & Hove Albion, Newcastle United, and Tottenham Hotspur have all shown interest. It’s said that Liverpool in particular made initial enquiries about the teenage defender.

Juventus And Football Giants Eye Potential Signing

Calafiori is also a target for Juventus, who are headed by former Bologna manager Thiago Motta. The Italian central defender is attractive to both Arsenal and Real Madrid, demonstrating the wide appeal of his defensive abilities.

Given the scarcity of left-footed centre-backs in football, Calafiori has a very high market value. His transfer is expected to cost approximately £40 million (€42 million).

The Complication Of The Sell-On Clause

A possible obstacle for the clubs expressing interest could be the sell-on clause from Basel, Calafiori’s previous team. He was sold by Basel to Bologna last summer with a 40–50% sell-on clause.

This provision might force Bologna to decide whether to accept the best offer or hang onto Calafiori for their next Champions League run.

Furthermore, if Calafiori keeps winning at the European Championships, his reputation might get much higher.

His performances might raise his asking price, which would make discussions between interested parties much more difficult.

Riccardo Calafiori’s Next Move: Italy Or Foreign Shores?

Additionally, Calafiori can decide to commit to Bologna for an additional season. Just four of the eight teams who are interested in him can provide Champions League football.

However, at teams like Arsenal or Real Madrid, starting spots are not assured, and it’s unclear if he would be Liverpool’s first pick under Arne Slot.

They might have an advantage against Calafiori in signing him because of Thiago Motta’s transfer to Juventus.

But if there’s a bidding war, Juventus might find it difficult to match Premier League teams financially.

The future of Riccardo Calafiori is a hot topic of discussion, as many of the best teams in Europe are fighting for his services.

Watching the young Italian’s next move with great anticipation is still in place as Liverpool and others square off.
