The Premier League have appointed Tony Harrington to referee the Liverpool vs Bournemouth game on Saturday. Should Liverpool be concerned about Harrington’s concerning VAR record?
Liverpool are set to take on Bournemouth on Saturday as they look to bounce back from a shocking home defeat to Nottingham Forest.
Concerning VAR record referee for Liverpool vs Bournemouth
The Premier League have confirmed that Tony Harrington will referee the game, Marc Perry and Derek Eaton will be the assistants and Bobby Madley as fourth official. Graham Scott will be on VAR duty and Sian Massey-Ellis will be his assistant.
Harrington’s record of being overturned by VAR might be a concern to both teams. According to ESPN no referee was overturned more by VAR in 2023/24 than Tony Harrington. Harrington was overturned by VAR 5 times in 10 games.
It will be the third time that Harrington will referee a Liverpool game. His previous two games were in the Carabao Cup. A 7-2 victory against Lincoln City in the 2020/21 season, and a 0-0 draw against Derby County in the 2022/23 season.
Only Michael Salisbury and Stuart Attwell had worse records than Harrington when it came to subjective errors.
Harrington only refereed to Premier League games this season so far, Aston Villa’s 2-1 win at West Ham and the 2-2 draw between Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
