Ibrahima Konate Transfer Update

Liverpool’s focus this summer may be on adding firepower up front.

With personal terms agreed for Hugo Ekitike, but questions remain over their defensive setup.

With only three senior centre-backs heading into the new season and Ibrahima Konate’s contract situation unresolved, Liverpool could soon be forced into a decision that shapes their entire back line.

Konate, 26, revealed in January that he had received a new contract offer but played down suggestions a deal was close.

Now, Real Madrid are lurking with intent.

The Spanish giants are monitoring Konate’s situation closely, with eyes on a potential free transfer next year.

Real have form in playing the waiting game, just as they did with Trent Alexander-Arnold.

According to Cadena SER, the club is only willing to pay €20–25 million this summer, far below the defender’s current €60 million transfermarkt value.

That lowball stance leaves Liverpool with a dilemma: cash in now for a cut-rate fee or risk losing a key defender for nothing in 2026.

Real Madrid are reportedly laying the groundwork to legally negotiate with Konate from January 1, as his contract edges closer to expiry.

Liverpool may need to act fast to avoid a repeat of the Trent situation, especially if contract talks continue to stall.
