Newcastle United look set to complete the signing of Yoane Wissa from Brentford in a deal worth around £35 million.

The DR Congo international has told the Bees he wants the move, and his representatives are reportedly already in the UK to finalize terms (via Sky journalist Keith Downie).

The 28-year-old enjoyed a standout 2024/25 season, scoring 19 Premier League goals — none from the penalty spot — and finishing as the division’s sixth-highest scorer.

Brentford are lining up Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara as a replacement, clearing the path for Wissa’s transfer to St James’ Park.

For Eddie Howe, Wissa is expected to replace the departed Callum Wilson and bring versatility across the forward line.

However, his arrival could have a knock-on effect well beyond Tyneside, especially regarding Alexander Isak’s future.

How Newcastle signing Yoane Wissa will help Liverpool?

Liverpool’s long-standing interest in Isak may benefit from this deal. Newcastle have been reluctant to part with the Swedish striker, but bringing in Wissa gives them cover in attack. That could make the club more open to negotiating a sale — if the right offer arrives.

Wissa’s numbers suggest Newcastle are not simply settling for a backup. Without penalties, his tally last season matched Erling Haaland and Alexander Isak, and was only one behind Mo Salah.

The forward’s ability to play centrally or on either wing also gives Howe tactical flexibility during a packed campaign that includes Champions League football.

From Liverpool’s perspective, Newcastle signing Wissa could be the first step in unlocking a move for Isak, who has been linked as a possible replacement for Darwin Nunez should the Uruguayan depart.

While the Wissa deal is not yet signed, all signs point to it being completed soon. If it also nudges Isak closer to Anfield, both clubs may walk away feeling they’ve scored in the same transfer window.
