Liverpool’s hunt for an experienced new No. 9 has hit a bit of Geordie resistance. Newcastle United have reportedly turned down the Reds’ opening bid for star striker Alexander Isak, as the Premier League champions look to boost their firepower before the new season kicks off.
The Swedish forward, who scored 27 goals last season, has become a top target for Arne Slot. Even after Liverpool spent big on Hugo Ekitike last week, their interest in Isak hasn’t cooled. If anything, it’s heating up faster than a Merseyside derby.
Sources (via BBC) close to the club claim Liverpool’s offer was worth around £110 million, plus add-ons.
Newcastle, however, are not biting. Their valuation is reportedly closer to £150 million — and for now, they’re not willing to budge.
Isak, 25, has been training alone in Spain with former club Real Sociedad, sparking even more rumors.
While Newcastle say he’s nursing a minor thigh injury, many believe it’s more about transfer talks than tight hamstrings.
The Magpies left Isak out of their pre-season tour to Asia, despite earlier comments from manager Eddie Howe insisting the striker would travel. That change has only added fuel to the speculation fire.

How much Liverpool might need to pay for Alexander Isak?
The gap between Liverpool’s bid and Newcastle’s asking price is still wide. Reports say the Reds could go up to £130 million, but that still might not be enough. Newcastle want a package close to £150 million — a fee that would make Isak one of the most expensive players in Premier League history.
Newcastle are not under pressure to sell. But Isak’s desire to leave could play a part if Liverpool return with a better offer. As of now, the saga is far from over.
