Mohamed Salah’s incredible performance this season has put him in contention to break two significant Premier League records: most goals scored in a single season and most assists by a player in one campaign.

If he achieves either of these feats, he will also set the record for the most goal contributions in Premier League history, surpassing any player since the league’s inception in the 1992/93 season.

Salah’s goal against Manchester City marked his sixth consecutive match with a goal, and impressively, he has only failed to score in six of Liverpool’s 27 games so far.

With 25 goals already this season, his tally is just shy of the 32 goals he scored in his debut season at the club in 2017/18, a record he is targeting to break.

Currently averaging a goal every 96 minutes, and assuming he plays in all of Liverpool’s remaining 11 matches, Salah is on track to score an additional 10 goals, potentially finishing with 35 goals, just one short of Erling Haaland’s record of 36 goals set in the 2022/23 season.

Premier League records Salah could smash this season

In addition to his goal-scoring prowess, Salah’s 16 assists already this season have him ranked eighth in Premier League history for a single season.

He is just four assists behind joint-leaders Thierry Henry (2002/03) and Kevin De Bruyne (2019/20), both of whom registered 20 assists in their respective campaigns.

Averaging an assist every 150 minutes, Salah could realistically add another six or so assists by season’s end if he continues at this pace.

His 41 combined goals and assists so far this season place him seventh on the all-time list, just six behind Alan Shearer and Andrew Cole, who both recorded 34 goals and 13 assists in seasons when the Premier League consisted of 22 teams, meaning teams played four more matches than today’s 20-team league.

Salah is also on the brink of surpassing his own best goal contribution tally from the 2017/18 season, needing just one more goal involvement to set a new personal record.

Currently, he averages a goal involvement every 58 minutes, faster than any other player in Premier League history (minimum 1000 minutes played). If he maintains this rate, he could register an additional 17 goal contributions, shattering the current record.

As for his all-time Premier League totals, Salah has 182 goals to his name, still some way off Alan Shearer’s record of 260. His assist tally of 85 also remains far behind Ryan Giggs’ leading total of 162.

The potential for a third player of the season award?

While predicting the outcome of the season is always speculative, it’s hard to overlook Salah’s form this year.

Should he continue to perform at this level, he is a strong contender for the Premier League Player of the Season award.

If he wins, it would be his third such honour, having already claimed the title in 2017/18 and 2021/22.
