Premier League boss makes blunt Liverpool admission after Ipswich Town defeat

Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna said that Liverpool put a world-class performance in their 2-0 victory against them, praising Arne Slot’s success on his Premier League debut.

McKenna, who has guided Ipswich to back-to-back promotions, reflected on the match by acknowledging the significant step up in quality that Liverpool displayed, particularly in the second half.

McKenna said,

“Liverpool kicked into their stride and the game got away from us,”

Despite the defeat, McKenna found positives in the game, especially how well drilled his team was in the first half making Liverpool try hard to break the dead-lock.

He said,

“I thought it was a really strong first-half performance. We made it a really difficult game for Liverpool, we pressed really well, our organization was really good, we were physical and good in possession,”

McKenna praising Liverpool

He also noted that while the team showed they could compete with a “really, really strong team,” the challenge lies in sustaining that level of play for the full 90 minutes.

The Ipswich Town boss, McKenna highlighted that his side which is newly promoted to Premier League was able to keep a “really, really strong team,” on their toes for 90 minutes.

“The second half was difficult, and Liverpool showed their quality in the top line especially,”Our physical level dropped, and that was the reality of it,”

Said McKenna.

He explained about how the physical ability of his players was not up to the world-class standards of Liverpool players had.

Despite the result he said,

“The players should be proud of their effort. They should feel more confident they can compete at this level but know there are areas where they need to improve,”

Liverpool fans were really impressed how their team showed what Premier League is made of to the newly promoted side and able to get praised by their opponents’ manager.
