The football world is abuzz with speculation as reports emerge linking Marcus Rashford to an unlikely move to Liverpool. The Manchester United forward, whose future at Old Trafford looks increasingly uncertain, recently admitted he is “ready for a new challenge,” sparking interest across Europe.
Rashford, a United academy product with 138 goals in 426 appearances, remains one of the Premier League’s most recognized talents.
Appearances | Goals | |
Man United 2015-present | 426 | 138 |
England 2016-present | 60 | 17 |
However, his dip in form – scoring only eight goals in 43 appearances last season – combined with being left out of key fixtures under United manager Ruben Amorim, has cast doubt over his long-term prospects.

Speaking candidly to journalist Henry Winter, Rashford shared,
“If I know that a situation is already bad I’m not going to make it worse. I’ve seen how other players have left in the past and I don’t want to be that person.
When I leave I’ll make a statement and it will be from me. When I leave it’s going to be ‘no hard feelings’. For me, personally, I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.”
Rashford to Liverpool?
Liverpool, known for their astute recruitment, reportedly showed interest in Rashford as far back in 2022, when uncertainty surrounding his United future first arose.
Former Reds sporting director Michael Edwards and Jurgen Klopp were believed to be admirers of the England international. Klopp praised Rashford’s contributions both on and off the pitch, stating in 2020,
“He plays for United, which makes it really tricky, but in these moments we are as footballers and as human beings always united. I hope his mother is really proud of him. I don’t know him but even I am proud of him.”
With Mohamed Salah’s contract ending in 2025 and Darwin Nunez’s inconsistent performances raising concerns, Liverpool may be exploring options to strengthen their attacking line-up.
Rashford’s versatility, pace, and experience in the Premier League could make him a valuable addition to Arne Slot’s evolving squad. Nevertheless, the possibility of Rashford moving to Liverpool, United’s fierce rivals, remains improbable.
The emotional ties to his boyhood club and the historical animosity between the two sides create significant obstacles. Amorim, meanwhile, expressed hope for Rashford’s resurgence at United, saying,
“Of course [I want him to stay], because this kind of club needs big talent and he’s a big talent, so he just needs to perform at the highest level and that is my focus. I just want to help Marcus. The others focus on their job.”
