Liverpool may have just received a major lift in their pursuit of Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi.
The England defender has reportedly told Palace that he will not renew his contract, setting up a potential summer move — and perhaps a new chapter in red.
Marc Guehi confirms exit plan
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner confirmed the news in his pre-match press conference, saying:
“I think Marc has already told us that he doesn’t sign a new contract, so he will leave next year. The club wanted [him to stay]. They offered Marc a new contract. But he said, ‘no, I want to make something different’. And that’s normal.”
The 25-year-old’s contract expires in June 2026, but his decision not to extend means Palace may have to cash in early — either in January or let him leave on a free next summer.
Guehi was on the verge of joining Liverpool on deadline day for £35 million, only for Palace to block the deal at the last moment after failing to find a replacement.

Liverpool could reignite interest — but timing is key
For Liverpool, this could be the ideal second chance. Arne Slot’s side remain light in central defense after injuries to Giovanni Leoni and Ibrahima Konate, and a January move cannot be ruled out. However, Palace are unlikely to accept a bargain offer mid-season.
Still, if the Reds decide to wait until the summer, they could secure Guehi as a free agent — a move that would save millions while adding a proven Premier League performer. As football fans like to say, patience sometimes scores the best goal.

European giants lurking in the background for Marc Guehi
Reports suggest that Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Bayern Munich are also monitoring Guehi’s situation. Foreign clubs can negotiate a pre-contract from January, giving them an edge over Premier League sides.
But Liverpool’s long-standing interest and the player’s familiarity with English football could still swing the situation their way.
Guehi has been a model professional amid the uncertainty, starting all 12 league games this season and helping Palace maintain a solid start to their campaign.
If Liverpool do return for him, the defender’s next move could shape the Reds’ backline for years to come — and give them a much-needed boost in their title charge.
