Alexis Mac Allister opens up on the major prospect driving Liverpool in the Premier League title race this season.

Liverpool are within touching distance of the Premier League crown this season, and midfielder Macca [as he is called around the club] has revealed one of the biggest factors pushing him and his teammates to claim the Premier League trophy after four seasons of Manchester City dominance.

The Reds picked up a 3-1 win over Southampton on Saturday and in doing so, created a 16-points gap between themselves and Arsenal in the standings, with the Gunners set to battle against Manchester United on Sunday at Old Trafford.

Mac Allister reveals major driving force behind Liverpool this season

The Argentine international has revealed that the possibility of lifting the Premier League trophy in front of the Liverpool fans is a big driving force for the Reds this campaign after they missed out on the opportunity to do so in 2020.

The Merseyside club were last triumphant in the English top tier in the 2019-20 season, but as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, fans and supporters were unable to be present for their team’s victory.

GOAL reports that the World Cup winner said in the match day program, “Yes, that’s what been discussed here with one or two of the lads who have been here at the club for a few years now and who managed to win the league title on that occasion.”

The 26-year-old recognises the huge opportunity of claiming the League trophy in front of the club’s adoring fans, and with the current position they are in, the Reds look on course to lift the title and celebrate in front of the Kop.

With just 9 matches remaining this term and a comfortable 16 points gap at the top of the table, Arne Slot looks to become the first manager to win the Premier League title in his first season since Antonio Conte achieved the feat with Chelsea in the 2016-17 season.
