Luis Diaz is entering a crucial phase in his Liverpool career, with just two years left on his contract come the summer.

While the club is expected to offer the Colombian winger a new long-term deal, speculation surrounding his potential departure remains strong.

The summer transfer window could be pivotal for both Liverpool and Diaz, as the club may look to either secure his future or potentially sell him while his market value is high.

Recent reports have suggested that Diaz’s representatives have been in talks with Barcelona regarding a possible move.

Colombian journalist Pipe Sierra revealed that discussions with the Spanish giants have been ongoing since 2023.

However, Diaz’s camp has denied claims that he was formally offered to Barcelona, maintaining that any potential transfer would be dependent on the outcome of talks with Liverpool about a new contract.

A new development has emerged, though, that could impact Diaz’s future. According to David Ornstein from The Athletic, Barcelona could make an unexpected move for Neymar, who recently left Al-Hilal in Saudi Arabia and returned to his former club, Santos, in Brazil.

Neymar’s contract with Santos expires in June, and discussions are reportedly ongoing about the possibility of him returning to Barcelona.

“Nothing has been decided but I’m told discussions are taking place between the Catalan giants and his camp. Neymar’s big motivation will be the 2026 World Cup and playing at Barcelona, in the rebuilt Camp Nou, has fairytale potential. A lot would need to happen for this to materialise, but it’s possible and a tantalising prospect!”

Ornstein wrote on Thursday.

Neymar, 33, has made it clear that his main motivation is to prepare for the 2026 World Cup, and playing at Barcelona in the revamped Camp Nou offers him a fairy-tale opportunity.

Although the move is not confirmed, both the player and the club find it a tantalizing prospect.

If Neymar were to return to Barcelona, it could make a move for Diaz more complicated, as both players are natural left-wingers.

With Barcelona also linked to Athletic Club’s Nico Williams, the competition for spots on the left wing could further impact Diaz’s chances of a move.

Will Luis Diaz stay at Liverpool?

Despite the ongoing speculation, there is still a strong chance that Luis Diaz will remain at Liverpool this summer.

With Mohamed Salah’s contract winding down and uncertainties surrounding Darwin Núñez’s future, Liverpool could prioritize retaining Diaz to maintain squad depth.

The summer transfer window will undoubtedly be a critical moment for both the player and the club, with his long-term future at Anfield still uncertain.
