Liverpool Interested In €50M Defender As Revealed By Fabrizio Romano!

Liverpool show interest towards €50M defender as Fabrizio Romano reveals Richard Hughes’ admiration towards Italian defender Calafiori.

Liverpool’s chief Richard Hughes holds great admiration for a defender who starred at the Euro 2024, and the Merseyside club could potentially be a contender for bidding against Arsenal, according to reports.

Liverpool Transfer Motivated By Richard!

Richard Hughes is the current sporting director of Liverpool, along with the CEO of footballing operations, Michael Edwards, who will be largely responsible for shaping the club’s summer transfer window.

Liverpool are yet to make their first signing under their new management, with Arne Slot ready to make a statement signing for Liverpool.

Liverpool need to sign new faces in order to fight current Premier League winners Manchester City and title-contenders Arsenal for the Premier League title.

Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara have departed the Merseyside as free agents. Joel Matip’s departure means Liverpool have to find a new Left-back to replace Matip.

Calafiori Under The Radar Of Richard Hughes!

Hughes and the management are considering signing the Italian and Bologna star, Riccardo Calafiori. The 22-year-old was a rare bright spark in what proved to be a disappointing tournament for Italy at Euro 2024.

The left-footed defender can also adapt to play in the left-back position and his versatility would divert the need to play Joe Gomez out of position at left-back.

Fabrizio Romano had this to say when asked about Arsenal links:

“So Arsenal have been showing their interest in the situation. But at the moment, it’s not a negotiation. There is no bid, there is no contact with Bologna, so it’s just an enquiry to understand the situation of Calafiori.”

Romano also spoke about the connection between Richard Hughes and Calafiori and this is what he said about Hughes when asked by GiveMeSport:

“For example, Liverpool director Richard Hughes, when he was at Bournemouth, he used to scout Calafiori when he was playing for Roma and Basel.

He is a player Hughes always appreciated, but at the moment, I am not aware of anything concrete between Liverpool and Bologna.
