The Reds Pushed For Anthony Gordon Says Amanda Staveley

Amanda Staveley was a key figure during the PIF’s takeover of Newcastle, However she has left her role as co-owner earlier this month.

Amanda Staveley in her interview with The Athletic:

“My biggest concern was that we’d lose Alex (Isak) or Anthony (Gordon) because Liverpool chased him and both are extraordinary players. Negotiating is tough because you have to pretend it means nothing to you when it means everything.”

Newcastle offered Liverpool the chance to sign Gordon, but they wanted to include Liverpool youngster Jarell Quansah in the deal. Liverpool turned down the offer.

Liverpool wanted to sign Anthony Gordon, but they did not want to lose Quansah, as they believe he has a lot of potential.

However, Newcastle sold midfielder Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton.

The sale of the two players helped Newcastle to comply with PSR and also helped them to keep Isak and Gordon. According to reports Liverpool are still interested in signing Anthony Gordon.

Liverpool are the only club to not make a signing in the Premier League this season. Signings are only expected after all the players come back for pre-season.
