So, it looks like the brilliant plan of Liverpool to stay on top might involve letting Mohamed Salah walk away for free – because who needs goals, right?
Well, Liverpool fans, it looks like we are on the brink of one of those classic “only at Liverpool” moments. The kind of moment where one of the best players in the world just might walk out the door for absolutely nothing.
Yes, you read that right – nada, zilch, zero. And who is this world-class player, you ask? Oh, just Mohamed Salah, the man who has practically carried Liverpool on his back since arriving. But hey, no big deal, right?
Apparently, Richard Hughes, Liverpool’s new sporting director, is facing quite the “challenge.” You know, just the mirror task of deciding whether to keep three of Liverpool’s most influential players: Virgil van Dijk, Trent Alexander-Arnold, and, of course, Salah himself.
Liverpool might loose Salah on a free transfer
All three are entering the final 12 months of their contracts. No pressure, Hughes – it’s not like the entire fanbase is holding its breath or anything. Now, let’s talk about Salah. At 32 years old, the Egyptian King is still performing at a level most players half his age can only dream of.
Just last weekend, he reminded everyone why he’s considered “world-class” – and that’s not just us talking. But Gary Neville, who, for once, said something Liverpool fans might agree with on his podcast.
But here’s the kicker: Salah will be 33 next summer, and apparently, that makes him too old for a long-term deal. Because, you know, it’s not like he’s been the most consistent goal-scorer in the Premier League for the last few years or anything.
The irony here is just too good. Salah’s age means he’s unlikely to get the wage increase he’d probably ask for – which, by the way, he’s totally earned.
And so, as it stands, Liverpool might just let him go for free next summer. But hey, it’s not like replacing one of the most prolific forwards in world football is a big deal or anything.
