Liverpool are reportedly in advanced talks with Japanese international and Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo who once called the Merseysiders ‘awesome’.

Summer business for the Reds is yet to begin prior to the commencement of the 2024-25 club football season.

Amid all the departure rumours of star players such as Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold; rumours of several players incoming are also surfacing.

This season will be the first season without legendary manager Jurgen Klopp and his successor Arne Slot is taking some time to assess the squad’s situation before making any transfer decision aiming towards long-term sustainability.

One player who has been frequently linked with a move to Anfield is Japanese winger Takefusa Kubo.

LFC have been tracking this exciting player for quite a few years now and are closer to signing him than ever as per reports.

Takefusa Kubo Admiring Liverpool As ‘Amazing’

Speaking to Goal, Kubo expressed his admiration for the Merseysiders by stating,

“The team I think play the most interesting football is Liverpool. I feel they are awesome when I watch their games. It’s not really to say they are my favourite, but more like awesome.”

The 23-year-old is a left-footed right-winger, similar to Mohamed Salah’s specifications. Both of them like to cut inside from the right into central positions.

Due to their similarities, Liverpool have identified Kubo as the potential replacement for the likely outbound Salah.

In the 2023-24 season, the ‘Japanese Messi’ bagged seven goals and assisted five across all competitions (stats via Transfermarkt).

If the Reds are targeting to replicate a stride of success similar to that of the Klopp era, then a like-for-like replacement for the immensely successful Egyptian King is needed.
