Rumors have been swirling about Arsenal’s supposed late push to snag Liverpool’s striker Darwin Nunez, but let’s get real – how much of this is actually true? Spoiler alert: not much.

Arsenal’s shopping spree this summer has already seen them eye up names like Benjamin Sesko, Viktor Gyokeres, and Victor Osimhen. Apparently, they are not done browsing yet.

Meanwhile Liverpool have got a forward lineup that would make any club jealous. New boss Arne Slot can call on a star-studded cast including Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota, and yes, Darwin Nunez.

You would think they are set, right? But they are not stopping there apparently. The Reds are close to securing Juventus forward Federico Chiesa.

With all these attacking options, there is bound to be some disappointment – someone is going to be spending more time on the bench than they would like.

If Liverpool’s two games under Slot are taken as examples, then Nunez might be the one drawing the short straw. Jota has been the go-to guy for the forward position, with Gakpo as his backup.

Poor Nunez did get a few minutes off the bench against Brentford, only to prove that he and the offside flag are still way too close for comfort.

Is Nunez really leaving Liverpool?

Then comes the sensational headline, with Spanish outlet Fichajes claiming Arsenal are ready to pounce on Nunez’s uncertain status at Anfield. Their headline read:

‘Arsenal wants to sign Darwin Nunez’

Apparently, Mikel Arteta is ‘willing to capitalize’ on this situation, with rumours indicating Liverpool would let Nunez go for a cool £73 million. Sounds surreal, right? Well, hold your horses.

Fichajes is not exactly known for its reliability when it comes to transfer news. And not to mention English sources are rolling their eyes at this one. The Liverpool Echo back in July categorically stated:

‘Liverpool have no intention of selling Darwin Nunez.’

Also, according to the Athletic, Liverpool’s plan is to add to their forward line and not subtract. Their report from Monday declared:

‘A move for Chiesa, or another forward in his position, is unlikely to change the situation around any of the current forward players with Liverpool looking to build on the squad they already have rather than weaken it.’

So, while the idea of Nunez in Arsenal red might get the Gunners excited, it’s time to face reality—this one’s not happening.
