Arsenal are interested in acquiring Argentine midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez as they ramp up their preparations for the upcoming season. This comes after Riccardo Calafiori, an Italian player, flew in for a medical at Arsenal, marking the club’s first major signing of the season.
With Emile Smith Rowe potentially moving to Fulham, manager Mikel Arteta is keen on strengthening the midfield.
While Mikel Merino graces Arteta’s shortlist, recent whispers from Argentina hint that Arsenal’s gaze has alighted upon another budding luminary.
According to Argentine journalist Diego Monroig, who spoke to Bolavip, Arsenal are particularly keen on Boca Juniors midfielder Ezequiel Fernandez.
Monroig revealed that Fernandez’s representatives have been informed about Arsenal’s interest in securing the 22-year-old’s services during this transfer window.
However, Arsenal will need to move quickly if they wish to sign Fernandez, as Saudi club Al-Qadsiah have already made a bid for him.
They offered $17m.2[£13m], but Boca Juniors rejected the proposal. Arsenal must take this hint and up their offer to land the talented midfielder.
Ezequiel Fernandez On The Radar of Arsenal
Fernandez has been making a dazzling impact at Boca Juniors, featuring in 20 matches across all competitions.
He netted two goals and provided one assist. His stellar performances have not gone unnoticed, catching the eye of Liverpool’s Alexis Mac Allister.
The Argentine World Cup winner has no shortage of words praising him, even likening his playing style to his own. He told TyC Sport,
“If you ask me a little more about my style, there is a player that I really like and that is Equi Fernandez.
He is a player who has all the conditions to reach Europe one day and I hope that can happen to him.”
Fernandez is under contract with Boca Juniors until December 2028, which means that Arsenal will likely need to offer more than the £13 million bid from Al-Qadsiah to secure his transfer.
Arsenal’s interest in Fernandez indicates a possible shift towards exploring the South American market, a strategy they have not actively pursued since signing Gabriel Martinelli.
