Liverpool are now reportedly keeping tabs on Chelsea’s young goalkeeper Freddy Bernal.

The 16-year-old has already drawn strong interest from Arsenal, who had a £1.25 million bid reportedly turned down by the Blues.

But the Gunners may now have some Anfield company in the race.

Bernal is widely regarded as one of the top goalkeeping prospects in England for his age group.

He’s already trained with Chelsea’s first team and has made several appearances for their under-18 side this season. His performances have not gone unnoticed — and not just in London.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano confirmed Arsenal’s offer and Chelsea’s quick response. “Arsenal have offered Chelsea £1.25m for England U18 goalkeeper Freddy Bernal,” Romano said. “Chelsea rejected the bid, clear on their position as they want to keep Bernal. Several other clubs remain interested.”

Can Liverpool repeat Rio Ngumoha’s success with Freddy Bernal?

This move from Liverpool wouldn’t be a first. The Reds recently snapped up Rio Ngumoha, another highly rated teen, and now they seem eager to double down on youth.

Signing Bernal would show Liverpool are not only thinking about the now — but planning for the long-term future between the sticks.

Bernal, who has also played for England’s under-17 and under-18 teams, impressed in key games this season.

From his debut in a 4-2 loss to Crystal Palace to strong outings against Leicester and West Brom, he has shown composure beyond his years.

Not bad for someone who was part of Chelsea’s U15 title-winning side just last year.

Chelsea, however, appears determined to hold on to their talent. Whether that changes with more bids — or pressure from the player remains to be seen.

But if Liverpool are serious, they may have to move fast. After all, transfer windows can get slippery, especially when keepers are involved.
