Liverpool’s transfer business this summer has been all headlines and heavyweights — until now. While big names have been flying in and out of Anfield, the club has made one more move behind the scenes.

The Reds have quietly wrapped up the signing of 17-year-old striker Will Wright from Salford City in a deal reportedly worth over £200,000.

There was no grand announcement. No reveal video. Just a simple debut on the pitch that confirmed the news.

Wright came off the bench for Liverpool’s U21’s in a pre-season friendly against Hull, nearly bagging a late winner at the AXA Training Centre. Not bad for your first day at the office.

Liverpool are believed to have beaten Arsenal to the teenager’s signature. The Gunners, according to reports (via This is Anfield), offered more in both fee and wages.

But staying close to home in the northwest, along with the chance to grow at a club like Liverpool, apparently swayed Wright’s decision.

Who is Will Wright? The new Liverpool signing

Born in Luton, Wright’s path to Liverpool hasn’t been a straight sprint. He’s played for youth sides like Luton Town and taken the non-league route through clubs like Biggleswade United and Hitchin Town.

His journey also includes stints at Dagenham & Redbridge, where he was made captain, and Gillingham and Crawley Town in the lower leagues.

Despite being eligible for the U18’s, Wright is expected to feature regularly for Rob Page’s U21’s this season.

There are whispers that he could even train with the first team, as Liverpool have done with Trey Nyoni and Rio Ngumoha before him. Whether Wright follows their fast-track route or takes his time like Amara Nallo remains to be seen.

For now, it’s clear Liverpool sees something in the young forward. And while fans might not chant his name just yet, this signing could be one to watch in the years to come.
