Liverpool are on the brink of adding a rising star to their ranks, as Valencia goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili is set to undergo a medical ahead of a high-profile move to Anfield.
The deal, valued at €30 million with an additional €5 million in potential add-ons, will see the Georgian shot-stopper spend one more season on loan at Valencia before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2025.
Giorgi Mamardashvili impressive stats raise expectations
Mamardashvili has been nothing short of exceptional for both club and country. His standout performances for Georgia during the European Championship, where he made a record-equalling 21 saves in the group stage, caught the attention of Europe’s top clubs.
He also shone for Valencia last season, keeping 13 clean sheets in 37 La Liga matches and preventing nearly 10 goals more than expected, a feat that hasn’t been seen since Jan Oblak’s legendary 2020-21 season.
For now, Liverpool’s current No. 1, Alisson Becker, remains unchallenged, with Caoimhin Kelleher as his backup.
But come next season, Mamardashvili is expected to be a serious contender for a starting spot, adding significant depth to Liverpool’s goalkeeping options. With Alisson under contract until 2027 and Kelleher until 2026, the future looks well-secured for the Reds between the sticks.
