Liverpool have intensified their efforts to sign Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi, setting a final deadline for the Spanish star to make his decision.

The Reds are keen to add Zubimendi to their squad as they seek to strengthen their midfield before the transfer window closes. Despite spending over £200 million on new signings last summer, including the likes of Alexis Mac Allister and Dominic Szoboszlai, Liverpool are eager to secure a top-class No. 6, and Zubimendi is their top target.

Reports from Spain indicate that Liverpool have given Zubimendi until Wednesday to announce his decision.

The 25-year-old, who has a release clause of around £51 million, is seen as an upgrade on Wataru Endo, who could be on his way to Ligue 1 side Marseille. While Liverpool are prepared to pay Zubimendi’s release clause, they are hoping to negotiate a better deal.

Concerns Over Transfer Business and Defensive Gaps

Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has voiced concerns shared by many fans regarding the club’s lack of transfer activity. In his column for The Mirror, Fowler emphasized the need for Liverpool to sign a holding midfielder, a centre-back, and a left-back before the window shuts.

He acknowledged that while there is still time to do business, it’s crucial to bring in new signings early to allow them to settle in.

Fowler also praised the club’s decision to retain key players like Mo Salah, Virgil van Dijk, and Trent Alexander-Arnold despite summer speculation. However, he highlighted the defensive weaknesses in Liverpool’s play, particularly in their pressing system.

For Liverpool to fully capitalize on their attacking potential, they need to address these defensive gaps. Signing Zubimendi could be a significant step toward shoring up their midfield and making them a stronger force in the Premier League.

As the clock ticks down to the deadline, Liverpool fans will be anxiously waiting to see if Zubimendi chooses to make the move to Anfield and bolster their squad for the upcoming season.

Should we get over him or there is still a possibility? What do you think Reds!
