Liverpool transfer news: Reds target Nico Williams could slip up

Liverpool may have had a rocky run of form lately, but off the pitch, the club is already moving to secure its future.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano via Youtube, the Reds are preparing to open contract talks with midfield duo Ryan Gravenberch and Dominik Szoboszlai — two players who have quietly become the heart of Arne Slot’s system.

Both midfielders have impressed with their consistency and versatility this season, standing out in a side that has struggled for rhythm. Gravenberch’s composure in possession and Szoboszlai’s tireless drive have made them fan favorites and key figures in Liverpool’s rebuild.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast, Romano revealed:

“Liverpool are preparing discussions with [Gravenberch’s] agent over a new contract. It’s not something that is advanced at this stage, but the idea internally is to start talking as soon as possible.”

Romano added that Liverpool see the Dutchman as “one of the best midfielders in the world” — high praise for a player who only joined from Bayern Munich in 2023.

A double deal in the works for Liverpool?

But Gravenberch isn’t the only one in line for a reward. Romano also reported that Dominik Szoboszlai could soon be offered fresh terms, despite being under contract until 2028. Liverpool reportedly want to reflect his growing importance with an improved deal.

“Szoboszlai is doing fantastic,” Romano said. “He’s playing in several positions and is always one of the most professional players at Liverpool.”

The Hungarian star has been a model of consistency, adapting seamlessly to different roles — from attacking midfield to right-back when needed.

Even during Liverpool’s tougher matches, Szoboszlai’s work rate and leadership have shone through.

With both players still in their early twenties, Liverpool’s intent is clear — build the next great Anfield engine room around them.

For Arne Slot, who’s been preaching stability and unity since arriving, keeping this pair long-term would be a huge win. Amid all the injuries and inconsistency, Gravenberch and Szoboszlai have become the rare constants — calm in chaos, quality under pressure.

And if these new deals go through, it could be the kind of midfield “double pivot” Liverpool fans will love — not just on the pitch, but in the boardroom too.
