Liverpool have been actively looking in the market for a new centre-back, as there is an expectation that there will be a squad overhaul this summer.
Liverpool’s interest in strengthening their defence has taken a new turn, with 20-year-old Bournemouth centre-back Dean Huijsen now firmly on their radar.
According to The Athletic’s David Ornstein (through DAVEDCKOP), the Reds are among several Premier League clubs chasing the Spanish international ahead of the summer transfer window.
While the focus at Anfield is expected to be on signing a new left-back, given Andy Robertson’s patchy form and Kostas Tsimikas’ uncertain future, centre-back is also now seen as a key area to address.
Huijsen has emerged as a top target, and Ornstein recently confirmed his £50 million release clause during an appearance on NBC Sports.
“We’ll begin with Dean Huijsen, there’s a £50m release clause in his contract. He’s the subject of huge interest from the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle United and Tottenham, they’ve all been meeting with his representatives in recent weeks,
The player and Bournemouth want this done and dusted relatively quickly, he’s expected to be a departure.”
Liverpool have reportedly held informal talks with Huijsen in recent weeks and are firmly in the mix to sign him.

Huijsen Liverpool links grow as summer transfer looms
Huijsen has enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League, joining Bournemouth from Juventus for £12 million in 2024.
His partnership with Illia Zabarnyi has helped the Cherries achieve the fourth-best home defensive record in the league. In 26 appearances, he’s also chipped in with two goals and an assist.
The Huijsen Liverpool pursuit could be influenced by ongoing contract issues with Ibrahima Konaté.
The French defender is entering the final year of his deal and reportedly wants wages exceeding £200,000 a week. If the club can’t reach an agreement, they may move quickly to secure Huijsen as a replacement.
Bournemouth’s strategy of buying young talent, developing them, and selling for a profit has once again paid off. Huijsen’s value has skyrocketed, jumping from £12 million to £50 million in just a year. That success reflects their strong recruitment under manager Andoni Iraola.
In a recent press conference, Iraola was asked about the growing speculation:
“My only concern with Dean is he keeps his focus here.
I see he trains very well. He’s very focused on improving individually and improving us as a team collectively. He knows we have seven very important games ahead of us, and I see him in a really good place.
No, I don’t think the noise around is affecting him. I see him in a good place.”
With the summer window approaching fast, Huijsen Liverpool links are heating up, and fans should keep a close eye on this one.
