Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen, with reports suggesting the 20-year-old favours a move elsewhere over Newcastle United.

The highly-rated centre-back, signed from Juventus for £15 million last year, has quickly made a name for himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest young defenders.

His rapid development has attracted interest across Europe, including links to Liverpool, Chelsea, and Arsenal.

Liverpool lead transfer race for Huijsen

The Dutch-born defender debuted for Spain in a match against the Netherlands earlier this year. He is reportedly eager to remain in the Premier League despite interest from La Liga giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.

Newcastle had opened preliminary talks with Huijsen’s camp but may now face disappointment.

According to The i, the Bournemouth man would prefer an alternative move, potentially to a club with Champions League ambitions and a stronger sporting project, conditions Liverpool can meet under Arne Slot.

Comfortable on either side of central defence, Huijsen combines ball-playing elegance with a no-nonsense defensive edge, making him an ideal profile for Slot’s anticipated tactical evolution at Anfield.

Huijsen hints at Premier League stay

After signing him from Juventus, Bournemouth reportedly inserted a £50 million release clause in Huijsen’s contract. The clause has turned heads across England, with Liverpool believed to be monitoring his availability closely as they weigh up defensive reinforcements.

Huijsen’s comments on his situation have only added fuel to the speculation. In a recent interview, the 20-year-old said:

“I have a contract until 2030 and I have an exit clause. How much is my exit clause?

The truth is, I don’t really understand it myself… Madrid is a big team and every player wants to play as much as possible… Another friend is also pushing Barcelona.”

Still, the player’s preference to remain in England suggests Liverpool hold a significant advantage over their Spanish counterparts should they make a move.
