During the summer transfer window, Liverpool initially targeted Joao Palhinha as a replacement for Fabinho but ultimately secured the signing of Endo from Stuttgart.
However, concerns have arisen about Endo‘s defensive abilities, especially evident in a recent match against the physical side of Crystal Palace. Additionally, Endo doesn’t match Fabinho’s prowess as a deep-lying playmaker.
Injuries to Thiago and Bajcetic, coupled with Thiago’s contract expiring in just over six months, have prompted Jurgen Klopp to seek a more solid reinforcement for the No. 6 position in midfield. Joao Palhinha’s name has resurfaced in this context.
Joao Palhinha to Liverpool – The rumours have started again!
According to TEAMtalk, Liverpool have engaged in discussions with Palhinha’s agent. The Portuguese international has been a formidable defensive midfielder since joining Fulham from Sporting CP last year.
Although Palhinha was close to joining Bayern Munich in the summer, the deal fell through due to timing issues.
TEAMtalk suggests that Fulham will demand the same fee agreed upon with Bayern Munich in August, with a figure of £60 million mentioned.
However, transfer expert Fabrizio Romano disclosed that the deal’s actual worth is £55.8 million (65 million euros).
Former footballer Robbie Savage previously praised Palhinha as a ‘fantastic’ player, considering him an ideal signing for Jurgen Klopp.
Palhinha, who topped the Premier League in tackles last season, remains a key player for Fulham and the Portugal national team.
The question arises whether Palhinha, turning 29 in July next year, would be a long-term solution. Given the circumstances, should Liverpool proceed with a £55.8 million bid to secure his services?
