Liverpool’s transfer window has taken a wild turn, with outgoings beginning to gather momentum even as the hunt for new signings stumbles. Ben Doak has quickly become a hot topic, with the Scottish winger drawing interest from both Leicester City and Southampton.
As of now, it is expected that Doak will depart Anfield this summer. But the big question remains: will it be a loan move or a permanent deal?
James Pearce of The Athletic highlighted Doak’s situation. He pointed out that the 18-year-old has attracted serious interest from Premier League rivals. Doak’s potential exit raises concerns about Liverpool’s squad depth, particularly on the right wing.
Writing for The Athletic, James Pearce reported:
“Scottish winger Ben Doak, who has been the subject of interest from Leicester City and Southampton, is also expected to depart.
It remains to be seen whether that’s on loan or a permanent deal.”
Liverpool may Part Ways with Ben Doak

Recently, Arne Slot fielded two teams in a recent doubleheader in the training. And there the gap in quality between club legend Mohamed Salah and the young Scot was evident.
Now, this is not a knock on Doak — comparing a budding talent to a player of Salah’s calibre is no easy task. However, relying on an academy prospect as the sole backup to one of the world’s top wingers might not be a wise idea.
This does not mean that Liverpool should part ways with Doak. But the lack of depth in that position is evident. Keeping him as the primary backup could potentially stall his development.
Kaide Gordon is in a similar boat, with Liverpool facing the tough decision of whether either he or Doak could truly step into the shoes of their Egyptian King. While it is uncertain if either will have a long-term future at Anfield, dismissing Doak now — especially after his recent call-up to Scotland’s Euro squad — feels far too soon.
Liverpool fans are hoping the club chooses a loan move for Doak, giving him the chance to gain crucial experience while keeping his future at Anfield alive. A successful loan stint could be exactly what he needs to come back stronger and ready to make an impact in the first team.
