Last Saturday, it was revealed that Liverpool defender Joe Gomez is exploring options to leave the Merseyside club. It came as a surprise to fans when Joe Gomez wasn’t mentioned in the team sheet ahead of the PL match against Ipswich.
There is interest from Premier League clubs for Joe Gomez. Gomez is also attracting interest from Saudi Pro League.
Liverpool defender Joe Gomez considering options to leave Merseyside
Newcastle, Chelsea, Aston Villa and Fulham are clubs that reportedly interested to sign the 27 year old defender. Last summer Saudi club Al Ittihad put Joe Gomez on their shortlist for defenders.
According to Paul Joyce the player had “grown-up discussions” with club over his future. Joyce also mentioned there is interest from Premier League clubs.
Newcastle are interested in Joe Gomez in case their attempt to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi fails. Liverpool almost agreed a swap deal with Newcastle involving Joe Gomez and Anthony Gordon in late June. But the deal did not go through.
Joe Gomez had a great campaign for Liverpool last season. He featured in 51 games for Liverpool, his best in a Liverpool shirt. His performances earned him a call up for England’s Euro squad.
Due to injuries to several players, Joe Gomez had to step-up and play in four different positions. He played Right-back, Centre-back, Left-back, even featured as a defensive midfielder.
Having a versatile player like Joe Gomez is key when the fixture list intensifies. If Joe Gomez does leave Liverpool this summer signing a defender should become a priority.
