Liverpool look set to make another big splash in the transfer market — and this time, it comes with a twist in the name, Hugo Ekitike.
French striker Hugo Ekitike is closing in on a move to Anfield from Eintracht Frankfurt, in a deal worth up to £89 million with add-ons (via SkySports).
But beyond the fee and talent, there’s something oddly satisfying about this one — Ekitike is set to become the fifth Liverpool player with a palindrome surname.
Yes, you read that right. The name reads the same forwards and backwards, just like the Reds hope his form does across two halves.
The Frenchman will join the likes of Andrew Hannah, David Hannah, Ozan Kabak, and Sheyi Ojo at Liverpool (via Michael Reid).

When could Hugo Ekitike undergo his Liverpool medical?
The deal has moved quickly. Ekitike is expected to fly to Liverpool today and begin his medical.
If all goes well, he’ll sign a six-year contract and link up with the squad in Hong Kong later this week for the pre-season tour.
Liverpool turned to Ekitike after learning Newcastle’s Alexander Isak was not available.
Now, they’ve agreed a fee of £79 million, with performance-based bonuses pushing it closer to £89 million. According to reports, most of those add-ons will only trigger if the Reds win major silverware — and if Ekitike plays a big role in that success.
Frankfurt boss didn’t hide his disappointment. “A bitter loss,” he called the striker’s likely departure.
You can’t blame him. Ekitike hit 22 goals in all competitions last season and helped the German club qualify for the Champions League.
Still just 23, the forward has already made a name for himself in France and Germany. Now he’s ready for the Premier League stage.
And Liverpool are ready to keep spending — with this deal pushing their summer total to nearly £300 million, more than any other English club.
From Reims to Red — Ekitike could be Liverpool’s next big name. Or, in this case, the next big palindrome.
