Liverpool have locked in one of their brightest young talents, and it’s the kind of signing that might not make headlines —yet — but could shape the future.

On his 18th birthday, Trey Nyoni signed a new long-term contract with the Reds, committing his future to the club he’s already started making history with.

The announcement came from Liverpool’s official channels on Monday afternoon, with the midfielder pictured putting pen to paper at the AXA Training Centre.

Nyoni joined Liverpool from Leicester City’s academy in September 2023 and wasted no time catching the eye.

In less than a year, he’s played for the U18s, U19s, U21s, and even made six first-team appearances. Talk about a rise quicker than a Trent through-ball.

Now, with a new deal in hand, Nyoni is ready to take the next step. “It means a lot, obviously supporting the club from young as well so it’s a great feeling,” he said. “But now I have to go out and show why I’ve earned this contract.”

Who is Trey Nyoni? The Liverpool teenager who made history

Nyoni isn’t just another name from the academy. He’s already made club history twice — and he’s only just turned 18.

Back in February, the young midfielder became Liverpool’s fourth-youngest debutant when he came off the bench in an FA Cup win over Southampton.

Then in January, he made his mark in Europe. Subbed on against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League at just 17 years and 213 days old, Nyoni became Liverpool’s youngest-ever player in European competition.

That’s not bad company for a teenager still learning the ropes at the top level. Manager Arne Slot has clearly been impressed, giving him chances in pre-season and regular minutes last campaign.

With Liverpool heading to Hong Kong and Japan for pre-season in July, Nyoni is expected to be part of the travelling squad.

For now, Liverpool fans can celebrate a win off the pitch, because this long-term deal could turn into something special on it.
