Liverpool are edging closer to one of the biggest deals of the summer, having reportedly reached a verbal agreement with Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak.

According to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, Isak has given the green light for a move to Anfield, agreeing in principle to personal terms that would run through 2031.

The Sweden international has been on Liverpool’s radar throughout the transfer window, and this latest development marks a major step forward in negotiations.

Isak is said to be keen to join Arne Slot’s squad immediately and is willing to reject massive financial offers from Saudi Arabia to do so.

One of those offers, from Al-Hilal, was reportedly worth £600,000 per week.

His proposed salary at Liverpool is expected to be in line with that of recent signing Hugo Ekitike, showing the club’s commitment to financial discipline even in a blockbuster deal.

Newcastle preparing for Isak’s exit

While Newcastle boss Eddie Howe initially maintained confidence in keeping Isak, his tone has recently changed.

Speaking from the club’s pre-season tour in Seoul, Howe admitted:

“My wish is that he stays, but that’s not in my full control. We have not received a formal offer for Alex, from any club.”

Newcastle are already lining up a potential replacement.

The club is reportedly “pushing hard” to bring in RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, although Manchester United are also in that race.

If Sesko is secured, and formal terms between Liverpool and Newcastle are finalised, Isak’s move to Merseyside could be sealed soon.

This could potentially become the most high-profile transfer of Liverpool’s summer window.
