Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk look set to sign new contracts with Liverpool very soon.

Both players have entered the final three months of their current deals, but Liverpool now feel confident they will stay beyond this season.

Talks have progressed well with both star players in recent weeks. Van Dijk confirmed there has been clear progress in negotiations, after previously insisting there was no real update to report.

Now, there is growing optimism within the club and fanbase. David Ornstein from The Athletic provided a promising update on NBC Sports Soccer, explaining Liverpool see it as a matter of “when, not if.”

Talks with both players have remained positive and respectful throughout.

Salah & Virgil bring ‘stability’ into the squad

Liverpool are determined to keep their captain and attacking talisman. Salah remains one of the club’s biggest global and on-pitch assets. Van Dijk continues to be the defensive leader and spiritual core of the squad.

The club cannot afford to lose both on free transfers. Retaining Salah and Van Dijk would offer stability during a key transitional period.

Arne Slot is preparing for a busy summer, and losing either would complicate plans. Liverpool already expect to lose Trent Alexander-Arnold to Real Madrid on a free transfer.

While losing one key player is tough, losing two or three would be disastrous. Slot will need to adjust tactically without Alexander-Arnold’s creative influence.

However, keeping Salah and Van Dijk would reduce the need for multiple high-profile signings. Replacing either in today’s market would require huge fees and rare talent.

New contracts would send a strong message to the squad and fans. Liverpool supporters need a lift as the title race continues with uncertainty off the pitch.

Announcements over new deals for Salah and Van Dijk could arrive soon. That news would bring much-needed positivity to Anfield.
