Ibrahima Konate has made it clear: last season’s success means nothing now.

The French defender, speaking from Tokyo during Liverpool’s pre-season tour, stressed that the team must reset their mindset if they want to defend their Premier League title (via Liverpool FC).

“We were champions last season and it’s finished now, we have to go again and try to do something even better than last season.” Konate said.

“I know it’s very difficult for everyone but we need these tough sessions to be ready for the season.”

The Reds have been grinding through intense sessions in hot and humid conditions across Hong Kong and Japan.

For Konate, the challenge is essential preparation.

“We need to train very hard for this season because I think every team wants to beat us – and we want to protect our trophy from last season as well.”

Konate featured in 42 matches last season and expects even stiffer competition this time around.

He credits Arne Slot for laying a strong foundation and is confident the squad can build on it.

Konate on helping new players settle in

While Konate is entering his fifth season at Anfield, others are just getting started.

The defender is already playing a leadership role in helping new arrivals like Hugo Ekitike adapt to their new surroundings.

“This is normal if you are older than someone who comes to the club, for sure you have to look after him.” said Konate.

“Help him to adapt if he needs anything in the city or in the club, just to be there for him. That’s what I’m doing with him.”

That support, Konate says, isn’t limited to one player.

The entire Liverpool dressing room works to welcome new signings and help them feel part of the club.

“We just have to give them the time to adapt because they don’t know the Premier League now.

“But I’m sure with this team, with how the people in the team are around them, this adaptation will be easy for sure.”

With just weeks to go before the new campaign begins, Konate’s message is loud and clear:

Liverpool won’t rest on last season’s title. The focus is on doing it all over again – only better.
