In a surprising turn of events, star defender Joe Gomez is set to stay at Liverpool despite Anfield exit rumours.
This summer transfer window has been quite disappointing for the Merseyside giants. The Arne Slot era has started off in a commendable fashion despite the constraints regarding the squad.
So far in the 2024-25 season, the Reds have secured two victories out of their two PL encounters after having a convincing pre-season.
However, the lack of adequate players who can complement the current first-team players due to transfer market inactivity, which many people believe to be the reason behind Jurgen Klopp ‘running out of energy’, has been evidently visible.
Amid the shallow squad depth, the club has gone even further by selling young talents who could have been instrumental in times of need.
The transfer outs of Fabio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg has caused some controversy as there are concerns regarding the squad depth.
Joe Gomez to stay at Liverpool
The concerns regarding defensive backup at LFC has been longstanding and the decision from FSG to not sign any defender this summer, again, has infuriated the fans.
On top of that, there have been talks about Joe Gomez leaving Anfield due to not getting enough opportunity at the Merseyside club.
Aston Villa and Chelsea have been linked with the English defender’s Anfield exit. However, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook, Gomez is set to stay.
“Joe Gomez could be set to stay at Liverpool after all.”
Crooks wrote for talkSPORT.
He even further explained that the Englishman changed his mind after his inclusion in the squad against Brentford last Sunday.
The 27-year-old might reevaluate his situation at the club in January, depending on how much game-time he gets under Slot.
This is most certainly a positive update for the Kopites amid all the raising concerns regarding the defensive setup situation at the club.
