James Pearce drops major hint on future of Liverpool forward

James Pearce has dropped a major hint on the future of one Liverpool forward as the business end of the season continues, and ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to the Liverpool FC reporter, he expects changes at Liverpool this summer in many areas of the pitch. Slot has admitted in the past to needing a defensive midfielder.

The Reds missed out on Martin Zubimendi last summer despite an almost-completed deal. The Spaniard has now chosen to join Arsenal ahead of next season.

Right-back is another position of interest as Real Madrid remain unrelenting in their pursuit of Trent Alexander-Arnold. However, Pearce believes the biggest area of worry might be the Reds’ striking department, as their current options are all in varying situations.

James Pearce hint on Liverpool forward’s future

The reporter has said in a post by AnythingLFC_ on X “I would be really surprised if Liverpool went into next season with the same options in terms of a number nine they have got currently.”

Addressing Darwin Nunez’s situation at Anfield, “I think, yeah, there are big questions about Nunez’s future beyond this season. I think I wrote about it at the end of the January window that Liverpool had been contacted by intermediaries from the Saudi Pro League about Nunez in January, to sound them out essentially whether there was a deal to be done.”

The Reds refused to agree on a deal for the Uruguayan because regardless of the potential fee that they could have snapped up for the forward, they were bent on keeping this group of players together to get the most they could achieve out of the season.

Pearce further added, “I think also, which again is probably part of the issue for the summer, but where do you go to replace them? Because you already have to look at Arsenal and how desperate they were to bring in a number nine in January and they didn’t do it, did they?”

“I can completely understand why Liverpool didn’t look to shake things up in January. But yeah, I think there will be changes in that attacking department in the summer.” The journalist stated.

The biggest concern for Liverpool fans heading into the transfer window will be the future of Salah, as the Egyptian superstar has yet to agree a new contract with the Merseyside club.

Barcelona have expressed interest in Luis Diaz, and Diogo Jota might not be offered a new deal when his contract expires in June 2027.

So much is going on in Slot’s squad especially in relation to the forwards at his disposal, and only time will show how his team looks at the start of the next campaign in August.
