Former Newcastle teammate of Alexander Isak has finally spoken out about the bizarre transfer drama to Liverpool.
The transfer of the Swedish international to Merseyside has been nothing short of a dramatic spectacle for the footballing world.
After many dilemmas, twists and turns, Isak finally became a Red on the deadline day, breaking the British transfer record with a £125 million deal.
And last evening, the former Tyneside striker made his much-awaited debut against Atletico Madrid in LFC’s first UEFA Champions League game of the 2025-26 season.
Even though the current Liverpool No. 9 played the opening 58 minutes of the game, he left the pitch with two shots on target, an 81.3% pass completion rate, one key pass and one dribble; earning a 6.94 rating (stats via WhoScored).
However, on the same day, his former teammate expressed how he feels regarding the dreaded transfer.

Bruno Guimaraes on Isak joining Liverpool
The Toon skipper spoke about the striker moving to Anfield on Wednesday and said,
“I think football is business, I think the club made a choice, he’s gone and I wish him all the best. I am grateful for everything we achieved together.
“But this is not the time to look at the past, it’s time to look forward to the future at Newcastle. We have the Barca game and we are looking forward to it.”
Guimaraes happens to be the first Newcastle captain to add an accolade to the Tyneside club’s cabinet since Bobby Moncur in 1969.
The Brazilian international achieved this feat with the Carabao Cup win back in March. Ironically enough, they defeated Liverpool 2-1 in the final, where Alexander Isak was one of the scorers for the winning side.
Although the two players are not playing together anymore and with all the drama circling around Isak joining Liverpool, this humble and respectful gesture from Guimaraes shows his sportsmanship.
