Hugo Ekitike has wasted no time in showing why Liverpool made him a priority signing this summer.
The French forward has already hit the ground running with five goals in eight competitive appearances, quickly becoming a fan favourite at Anfield.
Speaking ahead of the Reds’ Champions League clash with Galatasaray, the 23-year-old shared his honest reason for choosing Liverpool and made clear what he wants to achieve in the coming months.

Ekitike explains his decision and early journey
Ekitike admitted that moving to Liverpool felt like the perfect next step after leaving Eintracht Frankfurt.
“It’s just the best choice, it’s the champion of England. For me, they had great players, great history. It just fit with what I was looking for after Frankfurt. That’s why I chose Liverpool – it’s just the best option and I wanted to come,” he told reporters (via Liverpool FC).
The forward also reflected on how smoothly he has settled in, crediting the squad and coaching staff for helping him adapt quickly.
He stressed the importance of staying consistent as the season progresses, highlighting that he is determined to “keep going and do even more for the team.”
Ekitike was also asked about playing alongside fellow striker Alexander Isak.
Instead of seeing the Swede as competition, he welcomed the challenge.
“I can’t see one big club playing just with only one striker. It’s good that he’s here… I’ve been playing in a two-striker composition, one striker, so I can do a lot of things. If we have to play together, I can do that.”
The striker also addressed his recent Carabao Cup red card against Southampton, calling it a mistake he will learn from.
He apologised to his teammates and supporters, promising that such lapses will not happen again.
For Ekitike, the move to Anfield is about more than scoring goals.
With Arne Slot giving him tactical freedom to express himself, he sees Liverpool as the perfect environment to push his game to the next level.
And as he steps onto the Champions League stage once more, he wants to make a decisive impact rather than just watch from the sidelines.
