Liverpool’s summer rebuild was bold, but early signs show that instant success is not guaranteed. Big-money arrivals Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, and Milos Kerkez have all faced bumpy starts under new boss Arne Slot.

The Premier League demands more than just talent, and history shows patience is often the best play. Even Andy Robertson and Fabinho once needed months to settle before becoming key players.

Wirtz, a marquee signing from Bayer Leverkusen, is learning that English football is a different game. The young German admits he is still finding the right tempo.

“It could be that I’m trying to pass the ball faster,” Wirtz told Sky Germany.

“I need a lot of strength and energy for that… it will simply come step by step, as I play more games, get fitter, and be able to do things more easily.”

Slot has backed his midfielder, reportedly urging supporters to stay patient as the 22-year-old adapts to the high press and physicality.

The waiting game for Liverpool

Frimpong’s challenge has been different. A hamstring injury and competition from Conor Bradley have slowed his integration.

With only one league start before the Southampton clash, the flying Dutchman is still trying to earn a regular spot. His speed can change games, but staying fit may be his biggest battle.

Kerkez, meanwhile, has struggled most with the tactical shift. At Bournemouth, he bombed forward like a winger. At Liverpool, he is asked to play almost like a third centre-back.

Early criticism of his 1v1 defending and rash fouls has eased slightly after an improved display against Arsenal, but his adaptation remains a work in progress.

The good news for Reds fans? December has often been the month when past signings finally click. If history repeats, Wirtz could start threading passes, Frimpong might be flying down the wing, and Kerkez could lock down the left by Christmas.

Until then, it’s all about keeping calm and letting the new trio find their rhythm.
