Italian manager Luciano Spalletti has revealed a new role which new signing Federico Chiesa can play for the national team. Chiesa was not included in Italy’s squad for their matches against France and Israel.
Federico Chiesa wanted to use the break to work on his fitness and get used to the Liverpool way. Chiesa trained with the U21s last week and is set to train with the first team this week.
Luciano Spalletti reveals new role for Federico Chiesa
Luciano Spalletti made a significant change in strategy for their games against France and Israel. Spalletti set the team in a 3-5-2 formation in their wins over France and Israel. Spalletti played with a back four during the Euros. The Italy boss believes Chiesa can play more centrally in the new system.
“I imagine he can play as a support striker, but with more freedom to go near the flanks,” said Luciano Spalletti when asked about Federico Chiesa to the Mirror.
“This 3-5-2 is versatile, at times it can be a centre-forward with a wider figure, it doesn’t necessarily have to be two central strikers.”
“I made a few modifications and the team showed it had the quality I expected. Now we just need to reinforce that initial idea and be open to letting others in, along with the two or three who were left at home this time.” Spalletti added.
Federico Chiesa will likely make his debut against Nottingham Forest in the weekend and fans are eager to see how Arne Slot uses the Italian in his system.
