Manchester United legend Roy Keane was not full of praise for Trent Alexander-Arnold after his performances against Ireland and Finland. No surprise that the criticism is coming from a former Manchester United player.
Liverpool’s vice-captain Trent Alexander-Arnold was England’s best player against Ireland and Finland, but now experts and pundits have put Trent under a microscope.
Roy Keane on Alexander-Arnold
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher praised Trent’s remarkable on-the-ball abilities. Carragher on The Overlap:
“The way I’m watching Trent, even for Liverpool and England, and this has happened before, it’s almost too easy for him. “You know you see in the passes, it’s like he’s in training, you know in training, and you’ll [Paul Scholes] know better than me, he’s so free!”
To which Roy Keane added:
“He’s got a swagger, hasn’t he? He was walking over to the corner like John Wayne! Like get on with it! Like it was a catwalk,”
Roy Keane on Trent Alexander-Arnold playing in midfield:
“All the chat about Trent is all about when England are in possession but obviously in the Euros it was going to be different to the games they had in the last week. You’re going to be found out when you’re up against the better teams, I looked at him and he didn’t know when to go, when to sit in, his distances were all wrong when he played in midfield.”
Looks like Trent and England’s new interim manager Lee Carsley got off to a good start. Trent was awarded the Man Of The Match for the games against Ireland and Finland. Carsley played Trent in his preferred position right-back, whereas Walker was the first choice under Southgate.
