This summer, Gavin Laws, the chair of the LFC Foundation Board of Trustees, will formally retire and relinquish his position with the team’s official charity.
Gavin has been the main contributor to the LFC Foundation’s success over the past 11 years.
He has given freely of his time and labor and been instrumental in the charity’s phenomenal expansion throughout that time.
The LFC Foundation has raised £44 million in total during Gavin’s presidency to support its essential community initiatives. The LFC Foundation operated just six distinct programs in 2013.
Today, it oversees 27 programs spanning six impact areas and more than 675,000 contact hours annually.
Throughout Gavin’s presidency, the foundation has been recognized for its work with numerous awards, including Best Sports Community Scheme at the Sports Business Awards in 2023.
It also received Best Premier League Football Community Scheme at the Football Business Awards this year, in recognition of its ongoing efforts to serve the most vulnerable.
Gavin Laws Issues Statement on His Retirement
“I will miss it greatly, but the time is right for me to retire and have a different voice leading this incredible charity. I’m incredibly pleased with the job that the LFC Foundation has accomplished and is still doing every day.
We’ve reached areas others haven’t and made a real difference by offering people meaningful support and aspiration to create a better life. I would like to pay great tribute to my fellow board members who have also given their time and expertise to driving the foundation forward and without whom we would not be the success we are today.
My message is never forget what you do well, never forget that there are people out there who need your help and let’s find a way to get the funds in to make sure we can help people have a better life.”
While employed by Standard Chartered Bank, Gavin was initially introduced to Liverpool in 2009.
The following year, the bank was named the official front-of-shirt sponsor of the team, and Gavin witnessed firsthand the necessity and opportunity for the LFC Foundation to expand.
Alongside Matt Parish, the CEO of the LFC Foundation, he has overseen the organization’s remarkable rise in the last three years, during which time it has provided health benefits totaling over £65 million and directly injected over £16 million into the local economy.
In just the last year alone, the foundation has supported over 123,000 people. Parish said:
“Gavin has brought that desire, he wants us to be the best, but he’s always kept the most important thing at heart and that’s the participants of our programmes and making sure everything we do connects back to that.
For me, he’s operated as a mentor, he’s given me and our team the scope to grow and be creative but he’s always been there to advise and guide.
The Owen McVeigh Foundation is providing life-changing opportunities for children across the city who are suffering from cancer, and the LFC Foundation have stepped up with that support to enable us to go out and do that work, and Gavin is a massive part of that.”
Said Mark McVeigh, the founder of the Owen McVeigh Foundation in memory of his son, which is supported by the LFC Foundation.
“I’m just a dad who lost his son and needed a bit of help and support and from the beginning Gavin and the LFC Foundation offered us that, and without them we wouldn’t even be here and I’d love to say thank you to Gavin for that.”
The LFC Foundation would like to express our gratitude to Gavin for his amazing job and send him our best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
In due course, information on the new chair of the LFC Foundation Board of Trustees will be released.
