A former Liverpool defender explained why he believed Trent Alexander-Arnold would not win the Ballon d’Or if he joined theSpanish giants Real Madrid.

Arnold has been linked with a move to the La Liga team for a while now and could be nearing a summer move away.

The English defender has been given reasons why he will never win football’s biggest individual award even though he leaves the Reds when his contract expires at the end of the season to play for Real Madrid.

The 26-year-old defender’s contract will expire in June 2025, and if a new deal is not reached at Anfield, he will leave the Premier League leaders in search of a new club. Real Madrid have been linked with a strong interest in the player.

Riise Doubts Trent’s Ballon d’Or Dream

Former Liverpool defender John Arne Riise has given reasons why he thinks Trent Alexander-Arnold will not claim the Ballon d’Or prize.

According to Goal.com, Riise said,

“It’s so difficult to win the Ballon d’Or as a defender. Virgil van Dijk did not win it a few years ago. If Van Dijk’s performances did not win the Ballon d’Or then, nobody will!”

The ex-Reds’ player explained that it is not an easy feat for a defender to win the highest individual award in football, and made his point with the closest defender to win it in recent times Virgil van Dijk, who could not manage to do so.

Alexander Arnold has been considered one of the best players in the right-back position for a long time now and has been in that category since he was younger. The English international may be seeking a new challenge having experienced a lot of success at Anfield.

There are a lot of reasons why Trent might leave his boyhood club come the summer, as he has been at Anfield his whole life, and won all the trophies with Liverpool.

Liverpool look to claim more silverware this season, as they remain in the running for the Premier League, Carabao Cup, and UEFA Champions League.
