Florian Wirtz has arrived in England with a big price tag and even bigger expectations.

But if you ask someone who knows him well, the hype isn’t just about goals and assists — it’s about what’s going on inside his head.

Speaking to CBS Sports, Bayern Munich legend Thomas Muller shared his thoughts on the Liverpool newcomer.

“I think Florian will fit everywhere,” Muller said. “Because he’s not only a very good football player, in my opinion his mental skills are strong.”

Wirtz recently joined Liverpool from Bayer Leverkusen in a deal that could rise to €150 million with add-ons — a club record fee for the Reds.

Muller, however, downplayed the focus on money. “Expectations are so high but what are €150 million? That’s unreal anyway. It’s just a number between clubs, they change numbers,” he said.

And in true Mmller fashion, he added, “You can’t get Neymar but you can plant how many trees for a good reason.”

The message was clear: don’t judge the player by the transfer fee. Judge him by what he does on the pitch.

Florian Wirtz pre-season performance for Liverpool

Wirtz made his unofficial debut for Liverpool in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Stoke City.

But it was the recent clash against AC Milan in Asia that had fans buzzing. Despite Liverpool falling 4–2, Wirtz gave supporters plenty to smile about.

The 22-year-old played as a false nine, though he drifted all over the pitch. His vision, touch, and awareness stood out.

At one point, he even flicked the ball over a Milan defender’s head — a cheeky reminder that he’s not here to play it safe.

Wirtz completed 91% of his passes, linked well with Mohamed Salah, and showed signs of what could be a dangerous partnership.

His ability to read the game and switch roles mid-match could become a huge asset for manager Arne Slot.

With more pre-season games ahead and a Premier League debut around the corner, Wirtz seems ready to take the next step.
