Federico Chiesa could leave Liverpool in January owing to one reason

Chiesa sell or keep

Federico Chiesa’s situation at Liverpool has taken an unexpected turn, and a very specific date now hangs over his future.

The Italian winger, who arrived with great optimism, is determined to make his mark at Anfield. Yet something behind the scenes might force a change sooner than expected — and that is where the story gets intriguing.

Right now, Chiesa wants to stay. He has worked hard, stayed professional, and waited patiently for every minute on the pitch. But with the January window approaching and Liverpool reportedly considering a move for another forward, the next few weeks could decide everything.

And that’s where the curiosity lies: will one decision by Liverpool push Chiesa toward the exit door?

Fabrizio Romano reveals Chiesa’s intention

According to Fabrizio Romano (via his YouTube), Chiesa’s stance is firm at the moment. The winger “continues to demonstrate… that his will is to stay at Liverpool. He wants to play in Liverpool and stay in Liverpool.”

However, Romano also warned that things could shift quickly. If Chiesa still struggles for minutes by mid-January, and if Liverpool sign a new winger — reportedly Antoine Semenyo — then his situation may need to be “monitored” again on or around January 20.

Chiesa has played more often this season than last, but he remains mostly a bench option. His only two starts have come in the Carabao Cup, and recent reports from Italy claim Napoli are preparing for a January move.

Despite that, Chiesa hasn’t pushed for an exit, and Liverpool shut the door on any summer departure. Yet the upcoming month may be decisive.

A new forward signing could push him down the pecking order, and that is the one reason that could force a change.

Is a January twist on the way for Federico Chiesa?

The reported Liverpool interest in Semenyo adds real tension to this storyline. His release clause makes the deal possible, and if he arrives, Chiesa may fall to third choice on the right side.

That might be too much even for a player with Chiesa’s patience.

Off the pitch, the winger has also made headlines in Italy. He continues to decline call-ups from manager Gennaro Gattuso, with the Azzurri waiting for his return.

Gianluigi Buffon said, “We’re waiting for Chiesa; there are very few like him in Europe,” confirming that Italy will welcome him back whenever he is ready.

But for now, Chiesa’s focus remains at Liverpool — at least until January 20.

What Anfield Home thinks?

Liverpool should be cautious here. Chiesa has shown commitment, professionalism, and impact in limited minutes.

Unless the club seals a deal for another winger, letting him go would weaken the squad during a busy period. Even if Semenyo arrives, the decision won’t be simple. Chiesa has the qualities to contribute but he also needs the minutes to prove it.
