Liverpool’s journey in the Champions League could lead to glory, according to former England striker Mark Hateley. Liverpool are set to face Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) in a crucial last-16 tie, and Hateley believes the winner of this matchup could go all the way.

Speaking to NewBettingSites.uk, Hateley shared his thoughts on PSG’s evolution and why Liverpool have the edge.

“Paris Saint-Germain have finally realized you can’t fill a team with superstars in order to win things,” Hateley said.

“You can have a couple in your side, but not five or six. They were like the Harlem Globetrotters! Now they have a much more balanced side and they seem to be in the groove in the Champions League. They’re a team who nobody, including Liverpool, will look forward to playing at the moment. They’ve got the bit between their teeth.”

Mark Hateley predicts PSG vs. Liverpool and Champions League winner

Despite PSG’s improvement, Hateley believes this tie may have come too soon for them. He sees Liverpool as favourites to advance and lift the trophy.

“I think the winner of the Champions League could well come from that tie,” he said.

“It’s a difficult one to call, but I think it might have come slightly too early for PSG as they’re still improving after a slightly shakier start to the season. I think Liverpool will go through here and I give them a really good chance of winning the whole thing.”

What Mark Hateley had to say on Robertson’s struggles and injuries

Hateley also pointed out concerns about Liverpool left-back Andy Robertson, suggesting age and injuries are affecting his performances.

“Andy Robertson’s season has been affected by injuries,” he said. “He’s been in and out of the side and when you’re playing at the top level for a club like Liverpool, consistency is everything. He’s played a lot of football in his time at Liverpool and he’s been consistently good, but this season has been difficult for him.

“He is getting older now and injuries are beginning to hinder him, which has shown this season. He’s known for bombing up and down, creating havoc down the left-hand side, which he hasn’t been able to do as much this season. He’ll understand that he’s getting older and he might not be playing 90 minutes week-in, week-out.”
