Newcastle United’s summer is heating up — and not just because of their tour in Asia. The future of star striker Alexander Isak has taken center stage, with manager Eddie Howe offering his clearest comments yet on what could be the Magpies’ biggest transfer decision in years.
Isak, who scored 23 Premier League goals last season, was left out of the club’s pre-season trip to Singapore.
Officially, it was due to a thigh injury. But the timing of Liverpool’s interest, paired with Isak’s own desire to “explore his options,” has turned up the temperature on Tyneside.
Ahead of a friendly against Arsenal, Howe addressed the swirling rumours (quotes via The Athletic).

What Eddie Howe said about the current situation with Alexander Isak
“Of course there are things going on behind the scenes,” Howe told reporters. “Conversations that happen between Alex and myself and Alex and the club will stay private. There are no contract talks taking place.”
That might not scream ‘transfer incoming’, but it certainly doesn’t rule it out either.
Howe admitted it was his choice to keep Isak out of their recent friendly against Celtic, citing the ongoing uncertainty.
He added, “I certainly hope he stays. It’s football, who knows what the future may bring.”
While Newcastle continue to say the Swede is not for sale, Howe acknowledged that final decisions rest with the board, especially when massive offers are involved.
And if Liverpool comes knocking with a British-record bid? Well, even the richest owners in football can’t always say no.
Isak, meanwhile, has reportedly turned down a stunning offer from Al-Hilal, complete with £32 million per year, luxury perks, and more extras than a Champions League group stage.
But his heart seems set on Anfield. He’s said to be considering a transfer request to push for the move.
Howe insists the club are preparing for “multiple scenarios” and scouting replacements. But losing Isak would be a major blow — and finding someone to match his quality won’t be easy.
The ball’s in Newcastle’s court, but Isak may be ready to kick off elsewhere.
