Darwin Nunez has deleted a tweet aimed at his critics following his glaring miss in Liverpool’s 2-2 draw against Aston Villa.

The striker has faced heavy criticism for missing an opportunity that would have put his side ahead on the night.

The tweet, which seemed to be a response to the backlash the forward has been receiving, was later removed, possibly due to the growing pressure surrounding his recent performances.

Nunez, who has been struggling to find consistency in front of goal, is facing increased scrutiny as he fights to prove his worth in the Reds’ team as they forge ahead in the title race.

The Liverpool striker endured a night to forget after he came on for Diogo Jota in the second half of his team’s Premier League encounter with Aston Villa. The tweet in question, which has since been deleted, has drawn a lot of attention.

The tweet, which has since been translated into English by AnythingLFC on X says:

“Two three weeks ago, Darwin was the best, Darwin gave us the three points, but yesterday I was unlucky enough to miss a goal and I am once again the “worst” and the failure. I don’t fall, I get up and I’m never going to give up. I’m going to give it my all until the last day I have to be in Liverpool. Resilience!

The picture posted with the tweet was one following his late brace against Brentford when the forward was the hero and rescued three points for the Reds.

Nunez has seen his game-time reduced drastically this term under Arne Slot, and with misses like the open goal one yesterday against Villa, not many can fault the manager for not handing more minutes to the Uruguayan.

After the draw with Villa, Slot explained how Nunez felt terrible about the miss as he went down the tunnel with his face covered in his jersey. Liverpool fans will be hoping for a reaction from Nunez and the rest of the squad in their next match.

The draw at Villa was a sour pill to swallow as the finishing on the night was below par, while worse could be said of the defending.
