This year has already been exciting for the Merseyside Club and their fans for a lot of reasons. Now, football fans have come to know that an AI supercomputer will be there for this year’s Champions League draw.
It might be a tough call from the organization’s end, considering the obvious risks involved. However, it will be an amazing new experience for all of us, especially opponent powerhouses of Liverpool.
UEFA wants AI to decide fate in the Champions League Draw: How does it work?
This is already the last week before LFC will be able to make their moves in their closing summer transfer window. Besides that, 29th August is on its way, which marks the beginning of this year’s UCL.
However, for the 2024-25 season up ahead, UEFA wants the draw in a different manner. As per official reports, an artificial intelligence supercomputer will be there to conduct the Champions League draw.
Plus, the upcoming contest will have this new format. There will be 36 teams competing for the trophy in league format, disposing off the old group stages. According to Kaveh Solhekol, this software from AE Live will pick eight league fixtures only after someone manually picks the club’s name.
In the beginning of the Champions League draw, all 36 teams will be there in the pot; according to the AI’s programming, no club will get to draw opponents from their own league. Each club will not face not more than two opponents from their country.
Moreover, before judging the whole process, we should take in account the flipside first. If we did not have the AI, the Champions League draw will take 4 hours manually. We would have to go through the process for a 1000 balls and 36 glass bowls.
With the help of AE Live’s software, it would not take more than 35 minutes. Ernst & Young will audit the process; UEFA is sure that their new supercomputer is safe from all types of cyber attacks.
