Liverpool’s star goalkeeper, Alisson Becker, faced a tough night as Brazil suffered a shocking 1-0 defeat to Paraguay in their latest World Cup 2026 qualifier.

The loss, Brazil’s first against Paraguay in 16 years, has raised eyebrows as the Selecao’s performances continue to fall short of expectations.

With Diego Gomez’s first-half strike proving to be the difference, the result leaves Brazil in fifth place in the South American standings, a distant eight points behind their arch-rivals Argentina.

Real Madrid star Vini Junior reflected on the defeat by saying:

“We want to take Brazil out of this situation.

“We need to go home and reflect on how to improve, what we need to do to play well and win more easily. We can’t lose a game playing the way that we did. It’s a difficult moment but we have to assimilate all the criticism and put Brazil at the top.”

Brazil goalkeeper Alisson criticized

Alisson, who made his eighth start for Brazil this year, was largely a spectator for most of the game, with Paraguay only managing two shots on target. However, despite his limited involvement, the Brazilian media were quick to assess his performance, and the reactions were mixed.
